Global warming is the biggest challenge we face in the 21st century and as such, sustainability is an integral part of KYB strategy.
Sustainability: What does it mean to KYB?
At KYB, sustainability not only means the implementation of environmental initiatives, but also those promoting social responsibility and governance – otherwise referred to as ESG. To prevent climate change and achieve a sustainable society, KYB is committed to creating products that are safe for people and the environment, as well as actively conducting environmental preservation initiatives.
What efforts are being made by KYB to ensure sustainability?
KYB is committed towards achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals as outlined by the UN. To help achieve these goals, KYB established an ESG Promotion Office in July 2021. Since its establishment, this office has been at the very forefront of developing environmental, social, and governance policies enacted throughout the KYB Corporation Group. Since then, KYB has also established a Carbon Neutral Promotion office, specialising in implementing policies that will help KYB achieve their ultimate goal of carbon neutrality by 2050.
A number of initiatives are currently being undertaken by KYB in order to help achieve both mid-term goals by 2030 and the ultimate goal of carbon neutrality by 2050, including:
• Installation of renewable energy sources: This includes solar panels at KYB Gifu North – the world’s largest shock absorber factory. KYBSE, KYB’s factory based in Spain, has also shifted all electric power to 100% green energy.
• Reduction of waste water: KYB’s factory in Franklin, Indiana has reduced waste water discharge by 40% (11,000 gallons per day).
• Carbon neutral gas has been introduced at some of KYB factories, including Gifu North. Carbon neutral gas is offset by CO2 carbon credits. These offsetting measures support a wide range of projects including reforestation, afforestation or renewable projects.
